Ms West's Class

Teaching and learning Art at Kings Oak School.

What happens?  At KS3, pupils follow a traditional route and have been engaged in observational drawing, painting using watercolour and this has been moulded around the work of the artist Georgia O’Keefe.  Pupils use digital photography to record information as well as sketching and they will be moving on to sculpture using clay.  The pupils know their strengths and weaknesses in Art and as a result they are finding their identity as an artist.  Some pupils are comfortable drawing, others prefer to paint and one pupil has yet to find his preferred medium and is currently experimenting with sculpture.  By the end of KS3, my aim as the art teacher is for all pupils to be confident to try all different ways of making art whilst knowing what their preferences are.  I expose pupils to different artists and art periods.  The history of Art is a broad canon and I have chosen to cover abstract art through Georgia O’Keefe; Pop Art and Surrealism.
