Welcome to Catering

 

Year 7 & 8 - Key Stage 3 Introductory programme will include: Food Safety, Personal Hygiene, Health & Safety, Basic Food Preparation Skills as well as Practical Cooking Sessions.  

 

Year 9 - City and Guilds Level 1 NVQ Certificate in Food Preparation & Cooking (7131-03)


Students will gain the skills to work in a kitchen - from storing food hygienically to cooking simple dishes. You could go on to work in any professional kitchen, perhaps in a hotel, restaurant or school.

 

The Level 1 is also a great foundation for further training. After earning your certificate you can move on to a whole range of Level 2 qualifications, for example:
 

- Diploma in Professional Cookery
- Diploma (NVQ) in Hospitality
- Diploma in Professional Food and Beverage Service
- Certificate in Professional Patisserie and Confectionary
- Award in Barista Skills

 

Year 10 & 11 - City and Guilds Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Kitchen Services (7132-14)

 

The students will work towards an NVQ and be assessed in a simulated workplace (Kings Oak School). For each unit the teacher will watch and ask questions as the students performs a task, or looks at a portfolio of work that the student has developed using formal evidence from their learning.
Once the student has gained the qualification, it then shows potential employers and educational institutes that the student has the skills to work in a range of jobs such as:

 

- Hotel receptionist
- Chef
- Bar Tender
- Waiter/Waitress
