Bring us your past and leave with your future.

Welcome

King's Oak School is a secondary school for pupils with SEMH needs.

The school has undergone a radical change since federating with Waterside in July 2018, following Waterside's leadership supporting the school since January 2018.

The federation of the two schools is not an academy. Both schools remain within the local authority - but now have one Governing Board and Executive Headteacher.

King's Oak School offers tailor made pathways for pupils who may have found mainstream education difficult - but this does not mean that they would not have the opportunity to return, either to a mainstream secondary school or further education.

At Key Stage 3, which for King's Oak School is Years 7 and 8, the pupils receive a tailored curriculum, mainly based in one 'home room' with the same teacher and TA. They receive specialist input from the maths, science, art, music, catering specialists within the school.

At Key Stage 4, which for King's Oak School is Years 9,10 and 11, the pupils have their options for how to move their education even further forward. This can be done in one of three ways:

  • Academic - if a pupil shows a drive for academic study and is looking to go onto further education, they have the option of taking a variety of exams in subjects offered both at King's Oak and at our partners sites.
  • Vocational - if a pupil shows a drive for apprenticeship or the world of work, the curriculum is tailored to ensure that they spend three days in an industry placement and two days at King's Oak - developing their functional skills in maths, English, science etc.
  • Mixed Route - if a pupil isn't sure about their next steps - this is the route for them. They spend two days in an industry placement and three days at King's Oak - developing both their functional and further skills.
  • Oak Lodge - is a therapeutic base for pupils who have been identified by the SEN department with needs that may exceed the usual practice of an SEMH environment. The work within this area is highly tailored and bespoke and our pupils have huge success in their on-going destinations.

We strive to ensure that our pupils have every opportunity to succeed and we work tirelessly with their families, the industry providers and other services to ensure that they will.

Kings Oak School is committed to promoting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion throughout the school. By recognising and appreciating individual needs and differences the school demonstrates its respect for the communities that it serves and is a place where both students and staff thrive.
