Metro and Greenwich Parent Voice
Mon 10 Sep 2018As a charity, we appreciate the service you provide and we believe in
working with the community to better its services to its users. METRO
charity believes in celebrating difference and challenging discrimination. We work closely with the LGBTQ+ community across our Domains and today I am contacting you from the ANTI HOMOPHOBIC, BIPHOBIC AND TRANSPHOBIC BULLYING PROGRAMME funded by the Government & Equalities Office (GEO).
We have several free events and initiatives which we think will be beneficial to any parents that you work with. Before I do so, let me give you a brief background specifying why this line of work is important. LGBTQ+ young people still face disproportionately HIGH LEVELS OF BULLYING, MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS, AND SUICIDE LEVELS, and we are working to change that picture. Our training has received GLOWING FEEDBACK FROM OVER 3500 MEMBERS OF STAFF AND STUDENTS TRAINED in tackling homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying as well as LGBTQ+ awareness and inclusion.
We are running a conference for parents to support them with LGBTQ+
young people and provide them with better awareness. Parents will
receive the following workshops:
• Introduction to LGBTQ+ awareness and terminologies
• How to support Trans young people with their gender identity
• Film screening and Q&A
• An introduction to creative writing as a method of
self-expression (optional)
The parent conference will be held at our MAIN OFFICE IN WOOLWICH
ARSENAL ON FRIDAY 16TH OCTOBER 2018, 9 AM – 2 PM (more info. on the
booking link).
As mentioned previously, this a funded programme until March 2019 and we
are keen to engage with parents before the end of the programme. If this
is something that you feel would be beneficial to the parents you work
with, please share the sign up LINK HERE [1] so we can save them a slot.
There will be parents from different schools and youth groups that we
work with so it will be an opportunity for them to support their child
with their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
Let us know if you have any further questions by emailing
niazy@metrocharity.org.uk or alternatively calling 020 8305 5009.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Kind regards,
Hasina
