Religious Studies

KS4 Religious Studies

 

The academic study of religion is an inherently interdisciplinary field, incorporating textual studies of the world's sacred texts, language studies, art, history, philosophy, anthropology, politics, economics, sociology, psychology, comparative literature and literary studies, cultural studies, gender and all those things that make our world what it is today.

A student at Kings Oak has two options within the subject. They have the opportunity to study the beliefs and values course or can take a full GCSE in religious education. Both courses are create majical conversations where students share their views on the world we live in and the previous history that has helped create it in its current state.

All students who complete these courses at Kings Oak have a better understanding of the wider world and are more prepared to embark on their journey to success within it.

 

 

Students following the GCSE RE Edexcel course study the following:

 

Paper 1:

Area of Study 1 – Christianity - Religion and Ethics. 

Written examination: 1 hour and 45 minutes 50% of the qualification 102 marks 

 

Content overview Students must study all four content sections based Chrisitainity.

  • Beliefs
  • Marriage and the Family
  • Living the Religious Life
  • Matters of Life and Death

 

 

Paper 2:

Area of Study 2 – Islam - Religion, Peace and Conflict.

 Written examination: 1 hour and 45 minutes 50% of the qualification 102 marks 

 

Content overview Students must study all four content sections based upon Islam.

  • Beliefs
  • Crime and Punishment
  • Living the Religious Life
  • Peace and Conflict

 

Students following the ASDAN Beliefs and values course study the following and meets all the statutory requirements for the delivery of RE:

 

Course Content

The Beliefs and Values Short Course contains six modules:

  • Values, beliefs and decision-making
  • Environment
  • Crime and punishment
  • Peace and conflict
  • Beliefs and practice
  • Inspiration

 

Student complete 6 elements within each module. This can be carried out individually, in pairs or as a group, depending on the task.

Students successfully completing the course achieve an ASDAN certificate. This can be used as 10 credits towards higher level qualifications.
